Interactive activities to use after reading each chapter of The Odyssey: An Illustrated Retelling of Homer’s Epic for Young Readers (Classroom Edition).
This classroom instructional resource is designed to accompany The Odyssey and support its use in structured educational settings. It transforms the reading of a classical epic into a guided, text-centered learning experience suitable for middle school classrooms and homeschool environments.
Organized chapter by chapter and fully aligned with the narrative progression of the story, the resource integrates comprehension tasks, guided discussion prompts, analytical and creative writing activities, vocabulary development, and chapter-based teacher notes. Each section is carefully connected to key episodes, decisions, and themes in Odysseus’s journey.
Beyond simple plot review, these materials encourage students to examine leadership, responsibility, temptation, perseverance, and identity through close reading, discussion, and structured written response.
This instructional resource is included in the Classroom Edition of The Odyssey and is also available here as a standalone companion to support use of the Standard Edition. Because it follows the shared narrative structure of the adaptation, it may be used alongside bilingual and international editions.
Designed for Grades 5–8, this resource provides a coherent instructional framework that supports sustained reading, analytical thinking, and meaningful classroom dialogue.
